Traffic Police Now Verify Driving Licenses Through Nagarika App: A Step Toward Safer Road

In Nepal, a new system has been introduced to enhance the efficiency of traffic police. Recently, a program was held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, where traffic police received smartphone devices to check driving licenses using the nagarik App. This device allows traffic officers to scan the QR code of the driving license, providing them with the necessary information.

Importance of Virtual Licenses

In the initial phase, 104 smartphones have been provided to the traffic police. With these phones, drivers can present their virtual licenses through the Citizen App. According to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basant Kunwar, a total of three thousand such devices are needed across the country. He stated, “To regulate licenses fully through virtual means, the traffic police require three thousand smartphones.”

Features of the Device

Using this device, traffic police can scan the QR code of a driver’s license to access important details. If a driver commits an offense, the traffic officer can request action through the same device, which will send a message to the driver’s mobile phone. This feature will help traffic police easily obtain information about drivers in real time.

A crucial aspect of the system is that if a driver has received a ticket and has not paid the fine, the QR code will not be visible for future checks. Payment of the fine is mandatory to make the license details visible again. The information scanned will be updated in the police’s TVRS (Traffic Violation Recording System).

Plans for Service Implementation

The traffic police plan to conduct orientation training for this system soon to bring the service into operation. Once implemented, this system is expected to make the management of digital driving licenses much more efficient.

Key Attendees

The smartphone transfer event was attended by key officials, including Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal, AIGs of Nepal Police Kiran Bajracharya and Raamdatt Joshi, and DIGs Dan Bahadur Karki and Bharat Bahadur Bohora.

Conclusion

The introduction of this new system for checking driving licenses in the Citizen App represents a significant step in traffic management in Nepal. This system will not only increase the efficiency of traffic police but also provide a quicker and more convenient service for drivers. The use of digital technology is expected to improve traffic safety and management in the future.
